We HCM scan all our cats annually (results can be viewed on the national database) and all our adults are fiv/felv tested. We now have also done DNA for the HCM gene on all our cats. We are very happy to have no positive (2 copy’s of the gene) and only 2 HETS (have one copy) all our other cats were negative (no copy of the HCM gene). Of course this still doesn’t guarantee no HCM as the gene found is only accountable for around 60% of HCM cases. Until the other gene responsible is found and perhaps on going anyway yearly scanning is still needed.
